While walking around the Brixton Market yesterday, I found this art display commemorating people who lost their lives in a bombing of the area. The words that are lit up change and the light changes color randomly. This draws the viewer's attention to certain phrases at certain times as it is viewed. I thought it was interesting to see such a modern art display amid the hustle of the market, and one that pays homage to an act of violence since we were just talking about the violence in the area during the Brixton riots.
Cool!
ReplyDeleteGreat find! I completely missed this.
ReplyDeleteI wish I would have seen that. Actually, I was surprise by the lack of tents selling paints/other art forms in Brixton. Nevertheless, the street market of practicalities, selling fresh fish and fruits, home necessities (live mattresses and blankets), and clothes, exposes the lives of the people that live around the region. I saw one tent selling a shit and tie combo for 10 pounds, and imagined the difficulties some of the Brixton inhabitant would have to hustle that 10 pounds...
ReplyDeleteI really wish I had seen this!
ReplyDeleteThat is very cool. I'm with everyone else I wish I would've seen this. The contrast of the modernity mixed with the rest of its surroundings is very interesting.
