I was really interested in why the Queen seemed to be visibly peeved throughout the opening ceremony last week. She really never expressed any enthusiasm about the events happening right before her and even fell asleep for certain sections. Admittedly, she is an old woman but I wonder what her actual opinions of the Olympic games are and where her apparently apathetic stance towards them stems.
I have a feeling that the Queen knows that she can do whatever she wants at all times. So if she's sleepy, she sleeps. Let's be honest for a second, no one likes watching all of those countries parade in. It just takes so long.
Plus she's in her 80's and the music was really loud ;)
Relatedly, when we were watching the opening ceremonies, a few of us were struck by how many of the countries' flags had the Union Jack incorporated into them.
Her facial reactions throughout the entire procession of flags really got to me. I mean, yeah, she's old and probably has other priorities in mind. But when you are the host representative of your country, the least you can do is have half a smile or show some kind of appreciation for this worldwide event.
Ok, so this is hilarious!
ReplyDeleteThis is too funny. When I think about how much land England used to "own," I am amazed. England is a tiny country, yet the British Empire was so huge!
